Make your home a sanctuary

Make your home a sanctuary

Our name “Sanctuaire Exotique” was derived from the French word. In English it's simply Exotic Sanctuary. When you take refuge from the world, or everything becomes too much to deal with, the space that gives you peace, calm, comfort and protection is often referred to as your Sanctuary. Prototypically the word Sanctuary has religious roots, but over time the word has been broadened to include any place people go to for peaceful tranquility or introspection.

In the world of diverse interior design trends – how do we work on making our space feel like a Sanctuary?

Whilst designing a space, be it an apartment, townhouse, villa or an office, keep in mind the essence of sunlight, grass, water features, and a lot of natural ventilation. Elevate your senses.

We all have these beautiful senses we are born with, the sense of smell, touch, taste, sound, visual aesthetic senses.

How do we find a way to elevate each of our senses individually in the space we create? There are many ways to do that within the Home Interior bracket.

The sense of Smell

What scents do you love that make your home feel the most comfortable and would help you melt into your space with ease. The smell of honey & vanilla, through a warm soy candle, the fragrance of a burning essential oils that heals the spirit, or even the freshly baked banana bread that reminds you of your childhood in the woods, with your grandparents. Any fragrance that aligns with happy energies, rich nostalgia or inspiration, is a great place to start.

The sense of Sight

A beautiful vintage photo of your parents or grandparents, a handcrafted mug made for you by your six year old son, a handwoven seagrass basket filled with fragrant fresh white linen, or even a hardcover coffee table book you discovered at your nearest vintage store, every sight signals memories and feelings. We have to create the visual aesthetics in a way that enlivens us and makes us and creates a cheerful & cozy ambience in our own personalized space.

The sense of Sound

By now we are aware that sounds, music not only fill the air with sweet nothings, but also elevate a space with vibrational energy, reduction of stress, enhanced moods, and an overall beautiful quality of living.

The waterfall at the entrance of your home that sounds like the silent rummage in the Amazonian rainforest, the windchimes in your front yard or balcony that depict beautiful energies triggered well by nature and winds, the loud music running at the background of everything else that is happening in your home, which inspires family members to dance, or even the silent hymn played in your meditation space that echoes through the silent hallway. Regardless of the type of sound, it plays a huge role in helping your bedroom, living space, or even your dining area feel like a holistic Sanctuary.

The Sense of Taste

While this is a slightly more challenging aspect to incorporate, it is still possible to. Freshly baked cookies kept in your favorite jar in the bedroom, or a big cane basket filled with the juiciest oranges kept on your console in the passage. Anything that adds a little diversity to the taste senses in the home, creates little moments of happiness and perfection along the way.
